Library and Archives Canada provide a vast resource for retrieving Canadian military records, to make the process easy for all concerned here is what is required:
To identify a record, the following is required:
If you do not have the D.O.B, service number or S.I.N, secondary information (e.g. the names of next of kin, postings, dates of service, place of enlistment) can assist in identifying the individual. Specify the document(s) you require in your letter to them. It is recommended that you request a 'genealogy package' which gives you copies of selected documents that highlight/summarise the individual’s service. Note that all enquiries must be sent by postal mail or fax.
Your request can be written as a letter or you can print off a blank copy of the Application for Military Service Information Form listed [PDF 663KB]. Complete the form, be sure to sign it and then send by mail or fax.
To request service records for Canadian military personnel post to: ATIP and Personnel Records Division. Or to send by Fax dialling from Ireland: 00-1-613-947-8456
Library and Archives Canada also provide example files, here is one for Felix Cullen, one of Canada’s Expeditionary Force service personnel. |
