Canada Military Service Records

Library and Archives Canada provide a vast resource for retrieving Canadian military records, to make the process easy for all concerned here is what is required:

Note: The request must be signed.

To identify a record, the following is required:

  • Surname
  • Full given name
  • Date of birth
  • Service number or social insurance number

If you do not have the D.O.B, service number or S.I.N, secondary information (e.g. the names of next of kin, postings, dates of service, place of enlistment) can assist in identifying the individual. Specify the document(s) you require in your letter to them. It is recommended that you request a 'genealogy package' which gives you copies of selected documents that highlight/summarise the individual’s service.

Note that all enquiries must be sent by postal mail or fax.

Your request can be written as a letter or you can print off a blank copy of the Application for Military Service Information Form listed [PDF 663KB]. Complete the form, be sure to sign it and then send by mail or fax.
